How to calculate salon profit
Monthly salon profit is your sales minus your business expenses for the same month.
- Choose your main service. Use Multiple beauty services if you offer several types.
- Enter monthly sales from services, products and other business income.
- Enter expenses for the same month, including the supplies, rent, staff pay and fees you want to subtract.
- Calculate your estimated profit and the share of sales left as a margin.
Example: sales of 10,000 − expenses of 6,500 = profit of 3,500 and a 35% margin. These are hypothetical amounts in one currency, not typical salon earnings.
What should I include?
Start with one month
Use the same month for sales and expenses. You can use recorded figures or a planned month, but keep them consistent. This page does not fetch your transactions or decide whether an amount has been paid.
Add the sales you want to include
Choose related sub-services for your main service or add your own names. The helper multiplies each price by its monthly appointments, then adds product sales, rental income and other business income. Multiple beauty services offers suggestions from all categories. Choosing a service does not set a price or add a cost.
Check the costs you entered
Include the business costs relevant to your estimate, such as supplies, staff pay, commissions, rent, subscriptions and payment fees. Any owner pay or tax you want to subtract must be included in your expense total. The calculator does not estimate these amounts. Blank helper fields are excluded.
Use a helper total when it is ready
The helpers are optional. Use this sales total or Use this expense total replaces the matching main amount; it is not added on top. Later helper edits affect the result only after you use the new total. Check each main total before calculating.
Read profit and margin together
Monthly profit is entered sales minus entered expenses. With hypothetical sales of 10,000 and expenses of 6,500 in one currency, profit is 3,500 and margin is 35%. A negative result means entered expenses exceed sales. When sales are 0, margin is undefined. Enter amounts with up to two decimal digits. Results show two decimal places for every currency, including those that normally use a different precision.
Keep the result in context
This is a difference between the amounts you enter, not a bank balance or a guarantee of take-home pay. It does not add omitted costs, calculate tax, convert currencies or track unpaid bills. Save a PDF or print a copy if you want to keep the estimate.
Questions about salon profit
How do I calculate monthly salon profit?
Subtract your monthly expenses from sales for the same month. This calculator uses exactly the two totals you enter. The optional helpers can add up service sales and expenses before you use those totals. Costs you leave out are not subtracted.
Can I use it for a home-based or mobile beauty business?
Yes. Choose your main service and use the sales and costs for your own setup. Nails, lashes, hair, brows, makeup and the other categories have related sub-services. You can add your own sub-service in every category. No cost is assumed from the service or where you work.
Can I combine several services?
Yes. Choose Multiple beauty services to see suggestions from all categories, or add a custom sub-service in any category. Add a row for each price and monthly appointment count; use separate rows if prices differ. The helper also adds optional product, rental and other income. Count shared expenses only once.
Are staff commissions, owner pay and tax included?
Only if you include their amounts in entered expenses. There are no automatic deductions for commissions, owner pay or tax. The calculator does not work out tax amounts or decide how a cost should be treated.
What does profit margin mean here?
It is profit divided by entered sales, multiplied by 100. For example, sales of 10,000 less expenses of 6,500 leave 3,500, a 35% margin. These are hypothetical amounts in one currency. Margin can be negative when expenses are higher than sales.
What happens if sales are zero or expenses exceed sales?
With zero sales, profit is the negative of entered expenses and margin is not defined. With equal sales and expenses, the difference is zero. If expenses exceed sales, the page shows an estimated loss. Each result includes only the costs entered.
Which currency does the calculator use?
The displayed currency is detected automatically from your IP location. If detection is unavailable, USD is used. Use the same currency for all amounts: the calculator does not convert them. Results are displayed with two decimal places.
Are my entries saved?
No. This page does not save your entries to your Tune Hustle account. Use Save PDF / Print after calculating to keep a copy. A helper total changes the calculation only when you choose to use it.
